Preparation steps

Break dark chocolate into pieces,  melt over a hot-water bath and let cool. Cut marzipan into small cubes. Coarsely crumble amaretto cookies. Drain cherries.

Beat butter until creamy and gradually stir in sugar and eggs. Mix salt, baking powder and flour and stir into butter mixture alternately with the milk. Divide batter in half and mix marzipan and amaretto into one portion. Mix chocolate, half of the cookie crumbs, cocoa powder and instant coffee into remaining batter.

Grease a large loaf pan about 2 liters (approximately 8 cups) and sprinkle with remaining cookie crumbs. Pour chocolate batter into prepared pan and top with cherries and marzipan batter. Drag a fork through the batters to form a marbled pattern. Bake cake in oven preheated to 175°C (fan: 160°C, gas mark 2-3)(approximately 350°F) for about 60 minutes.

Let cake cool on a wire rack. Sprinkle cake with powdered sugar to serve.
