Preparation steps

1.

For the dough: Combine quark, oil, milk, sugar and vanilla sugar. Combine flour and baking powder and gradually stir into quark mixture. Knead dough and roll out thinly on a floured surface. Cut out discs, about 10 cm (approximately 4 inches) in diameter.

For the filling: Combine quark, vanilla sugar, sugar, egg and buttermilk. Add filling to the center of each dough disc.

Fold circles in half to form semi-circles and press edges to seal.

Place pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in preheated oven a 200°C (approximately 400°F) for about 20 minutes. Bake until golden brown, then remove and let cool on a wire rack.

For the topping: Combine powdered sugar, egg whites and lemon juice and stir until smooth. Use to decorate pastries and serve.
