Preparation steps

For the cookies, mix flour with powdered sugar and lemon zest. Pile on the work surface and create a well in the flour. Add egg and chopped butter to the middle of the well. Chop with a knife, then knead with your hands and form a firm dough. Wrap in foil and refrigerate at least 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll out dough on a floured work surface until 3-4 mm (approximately 1/10 - 1/5 inch) thick. Cut out any cookie shapes (for example, stars and hearts) using cookie cutters and place on the baking sheet. Place in the oven and bake about 10 minutes until golden brown. Take cookies out of oven and place on a wire rack to cool. For the topping, mix icing sugar with lemon juice until thick. Put icing into a small piping bag and decorate the cookies with icing as desired. Let icing dry before serving.
