Preparation steps

Rinse herring and pat dry. Butter  8 pieces of aluminum foil and arrange fish on them. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Peel onions and cut into rings. Rinse apples, quarter and core and cut into thin slices.

Season herrings with salt and pepper and spread with onion rings and apple slices on one side. Rinse parsley, shake dry, chop finely and sprinkle on fish. Spread butter flakes all over and fold paper well. Broil under a hot broiler for about 5 minutes per side, watching carefully. Arrange on plates and unfold carefully, serve two fish pieces per person.
