Preparation steps

Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F). Grease a baking sheet with butter and dust with flour.

For the dough: Mix butter at room temperature until foamy. Add some of the sugar, stir, then add an egg and stir. Repeat until all sugar and eggs have been incorporated into butter. Season with salt. Stir in baking soda, flour and milk gradually to form a smooth, spreadable dough. Spread on baking sheet and sprinkle with almonds.

For the filling: Rinse raisins and soak in rum for 10 minutes. Peel apples, quarter and core. Chop apple quarters and mix with lemon juice, custard powder, sugar and raisins. Put mixture on top of dough.

For the streusel topping: Mix flour, almonds, advocaat and sugar. Using a pastry cutter, cut butter into dry ingredients, creating a crumbly topping. Sprinkle topping over the apple and raisin mixture. Bake for 50 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool and garnish with powdered sugar. Cut into bars and serve.
