Advocaat in a Nest for Easter
Boil milk, cream, vanilla bean and half the sugar, stirring occasionally. Beat remaining sugar with egg yolks over a hot water bath until frothy. Allow milk mixture to cool slightly. Slowly pour egg yolk mixture into milk mixture, stirring thoroughly.
Strain advocaat mixture through a fine sieve and allow to cool slightly. Using an electric mixer on highest setting, beat advocaat mixture until creamy and pour in rum in a slow, steady stream. Pour advocaat into a bottle, close tightly to seal and let cool. Advocaat can be stored for a short time in a cool, dark place. Set bottle on a platter in a nest of moss to serve or to give as a gift.
